HIFU – High Intensity Focused Ultrasound
Skin laxity, once established, requires a treatment that reaches beneath the surface to where structural change is possible. HIFU does this by converging multiple beams of ultrasound energy to a precise focal point within the tissue, generating an intense, localised heat at that point without affecting the skin surface or the tissue between surface and target.
The thermal coagulation points created within the dermis and subcutaneous tissue trigger the body’s wound-healing response: collagen contracts at the focal point, and new collagen begins to form in the surrounding tissue over the following weeks. The result is progressive skin tightening and lifting that develops over three to six months. On the face, this manifests as improved jawline definition, reduced jowling, and a lifted brow and midface. On the body, HIFU addresses laxity in areas such as the abdomen, inner thighs, and arms.

HIFU Treatment Process: Step-by-Step
Skin Assessment
Your specialist evaluates the degree of laxity, the tissue thickness, and the areas most in need of treatment. Cartridge selection and the treatment map are decided before the session.
Ultrasound Gel
Gel is applied to the treatment area to facilitate energy transmission.
HIFU Delivery
The HIFU handpiece moves in systematic lines across the treatment area. At each point, ultrasound beams are focused to the target depth, creating a controlled thermal coagulation point. The sensation at deeper depths is a brief, intense heat — the sign that energy has reached the correct tissue layer.
Soothe and Protect
A soothing serum and SPF are applied to close the session. Mild redness resolves within a few hours.

HIFU Treatment FAQs
How is HIFU different from Ultherapy?
Both use focused ultrasound for non-surgical lifting and collagen stimulation. Ultherapy is a specific device with real-time imaging that allows the specialist to visualise tissue layers before delivering energy, offering a higher degree of precision. HIFU is a broader category of focused ultrasound technology. At AAYNA, your specialist will recommend the most appropriate device for your specific concern and degree of laxity.
How many sessions are needed?
One session per treatment area per year is the standard recommendation. Results continue developing for three to six months following the session.
Is it painful?
The sensation at deeper depth cartridges is a brief, intense heat. Most clients tolerate it well. Pre-session analgesia can be taken to improve comfort. Your specialist will discuss this at consultation.
What is the downtime?
Mild redness for a few hours. Normal activity resumes the same day. Occasional tenderness in the treated tissue may persist for a few days, which is a normal response to the thermal coagulation points.
Who is a good candidate?
Clients with mild to moderate laxity of the face, neck, brow, or body who want structural improvement without surgery. Your specialist will assess whether your degree of laxity is within the range where HIFU will produce a meaningful result.
