Thermage Treatment Process: Step-by-Step

Step 1

Cleanse and Prepare

The treatment area is thoroughly cleansed. A treatment grid is applied to the skin to guide the delivery of radiofrequency energy with complete, systematic coverage.

Step 2

Coupling Solution

A coupling solution is applied to the skin. This ensures the radiofrequency energy transfers efficiently from the device into the tissue.

Step 3

Radio frequency Delivery

The Thermage CPT device moves across the grid in a methodical sequence. Each pulse delivers a burst of radiofrequency energy into the deeper layers of the skin. The vibrating tip distracts from the heat sensation, and the surface is simultaneously cooled to protect the outer layer of the skin.

Step 4

Eye Treatment (where indicated)

For periorbital treatment, a protective eye shield is inserted before the dedicated eye tip is applied. The delicate skin around the eyes requires a separate, precisely calibrated approach.

Step 5

Soothe and Protect

The grid is removed, and a calming sunscreen is applied. Mild redness resolves within a few hours. There is no recovery period.

Most people find it very tolerable. There is no downtime — mild redness typically resolves within a few hours, and you can return to your routine the same day.

How is Thermage different from Ultherapy, and can it treat the eye area?

Both are non-invasive skin tightening treatments, but they use different energy types. Thermage uses monopolar radiofrequency, which heats the skin and subcutaneous tissue evenly and is generally well tolerated. Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound, which targets specific depths but tends to be less comfortable.
