Most skin laxity begins the same way: the fibrous network beneath the skin – the septa that anchor skin to the muscle layer – loosens years before the surface shows it. XERF’s innovation is running two RF frequencies – 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz – in the same session, so energy can be directed to both the dermis and the deeper subcutaneous fibrous septa, rather than one or the other.

The device pairs this with two patented comfort technologies: Wave Fit Pulse, which automatically adjusts pulse structure to the skin’s thickness and the settings in use, and ICD (Integrated Cryogen Delivery) cooling, which cools the skin between pulses to protect the surface while the deeper layers heat. Combined with a Spider Pattern Effector tip – designed to distribute energy evenly across its 6 cm² surface rather than concentrating it at the edges – the treatment is designed to be done without topical numbing.

XERF received US FDA clearance in August 2025. The clearance itself covers electrocoagulation and hemostasis in dermatologic and general surgical procedures; skin-tightening effects are described in that clearance as resulting from soft-tissue coagulation.
